McGill鈥檚 distinctive legal education is one of the best in the world. It crosses boundaries of language, jurisdiction, legal tradition, discipline, and culture. It equips jurists with the critical knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding to excel as problem solvers and architects of social order. It prepares you for a world where boundaries are porous and shifting鈥攁nd people, goods, and ideas move further and faster than ever.
Our double-degree program explores legal traditions from a unique comparative and integrated perspective. Building on proven strengths, in 2016 we launched a renewed curriculum, featuring new opportunities for problem-based learning, translating knowledge into action, and developing the soft skills that are critical to engaged, effective, and enlightened jurists. Within our graduate program鈥檚 vibrant community, our master鈥檚 and doctoral students receive dedicated attention from a diverse group of leading researchers. Our doctoral students receive a preparation for law teaching that has no equal.
La Facult茅 de droit est situ茅e au c艙ur de Montr茅al, une m茅tropole francophone caract茅ris茅e par un environnement culturel dynamique et pluraliste. Cet espace cosmopolite a guid茅 notre mission fondamentale. L鈥檈nseignement et la recherche s鈥檡 d茅roulent en anglais et en fran莽ais, en droit civil comme en common law. En coh茅rence avec notre situation sur le territoire traditionnel du peuple Kanien鈥檏eh谩:ka et des appels de la Commission de v茅rit茅 et r茅conciliation du Canada, nos r茅formes du programme augmenteront la part consacr茅e aux traditions juridiques autochtones.
The Faculty is outward-looking and international, recruiting professors from around the world. The BCL/LLB class entering in 2016 included students born in 30 countries and speaking 15 mother tongues.
We earned our extraordinary reputation with our unique program and path-breaking research. Our professors are deeply committed to our students鈥� success. We鈥檙e taking steps to be more inclusive towards a broad range of learners鈥攁nd to better represent our diverse society, including Canada鈥檚 indigenous peoples. Canada鈥檚 oldest law faculty isn鈥檛 resting on its laurels.
